Symbols
Almost the first thing i learnt about Sir (after name, age, location, looks, normal things like that...........) was His 'symbol' as a Dom. He explained that having a symbol helped Him focus on the type of Dom He was striving to be, and that in deciding which symbol to use He had been able to consolidate in His own mind the characteristics He should be displaying.
Sir's symbol is a jaguar. To me this sums up a lot about Him:
*He has a strong and muscular body, and lots of stamina,
*He is a powerful and formidable Man, yet has a deeply caring side too,
*He is very territorial and protective of His home and property,
*He is fairly solitary, preferring to be alone except for carefully chosen company,
*He is precise and confident about what He does,
*He is an opportunist, very quick to spot an advantage and make full use of it, also good at knowing when the time is right,
*He is persistent and patient, hunting down what He wants, and usually gets what He sets out to achieve, *He is always aware of what is going on around Him,
*He is 'rare' and different, and much admired,
*People are drawn to Him because of His quiet, yet authoritative and powerful presence.
(These are probably different characteristics than the ones Sir was thinking of, but they make sense to me.)
Sir asked me to think about what my 'symbol' of submission should be, and after a bit of thought i decided it should be a butterfly. To me a butterfly represents a new beginning, a new and improved me, the final unveiling of my true potential. And it shows my fragility and vulnerability, because i know that i need nurturing and protecting, especially in the initial stages. i also hope it shows elements of happiness, joy, peace, gentleness, innocence and (inner) beauty, all of which i feel are characteristics of my submissiveness.
It's kind of hard for me to explain beyond this, but i'll post the statement which is going to be read out at my collaring, because i think it's really nice:
"libby's 'symbol' of submission is a butterfly, because this represents her metamorphosis from her previous state, through a period of growth and change, and now into the delicate, beautiful and freely-flying girl we see here today. she has found her wings."

OK, here's My full comment.
1:27 PMIt was both interesting and amusing (in a good way) to read the list of characteristics you feel I share with a jaguar. Some of the things in your list I hadn't thought of, and some things I thought of you didn't mention, but that hardly matters. I can see that you have an understanding both of Me and how My symbol fits with Me, which is the main thing.
As for your symbol; I agree wholeheartedly that a butterfly represents you very well, for all the reasons you mentionned. I'd like to give you one last thing to think about, with relation to that:
caterpillars are rather dull-looking, ordinary, with little to distinguish them from each other. During the time of immense change whilst the caterpillar is in its cocoon, nobody (except perhaps a butterfly expert) knows how it will look when it emerges, what type of butterfly it will be. Certainly nobody knows which caterpillars will survive to emerge from their cocoons or which will be the most dazzling and beautiful butterflies of all. It's very much a 'wait and see' game, and there's little that anyone can do to help the process once it's begun, save for trying to provide the optimum conditions for development, and protection from predators. The end result depends on the potential present inside each caterpillar as an individual.
I believe that submissives are like that, libby. We can get a hint of their true potential during the 'growth and change' period, but it's still a question of waiting and hoping. Now your true beauty has been revealed, and wow it's magnificent darling XX
